HSUPS (Hampshire & Sussex Units Preservation Society) exists to preserve at least one example of a Hampshire (Class 205, or formerly known as types 2H or 3H) or Sussex (Class 207, or formerly known as type 3D) Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) or Thumper. These units were built by the Southern Region of British Railways in the 1950´s, and 50 years later, were still in service with various Train Operating Companies (TOCs) following the privatisation of the railways in the early 1990´s. They were affectionately known as Thumpers because of the noise produced by their large, slow reving, English Electric diesel engines.
