The Hampshire and Sussex Units Preservation Society Limited exists to preserve at least one of these historic and unique units. The group also exists to promote and generate interest in Class 205 and 207 Diesel Electric Multiple Units.
The group was originally formed in 1990 as an appreciation society, changing its aim to that of preservation in 1991. A limited Company was formed in 1993 to enable the group to better fulfil its aims. Since that time the Society has grown and raised sufficient funds to acquire the vehicles required to be able to preserve a unit and operate it on a heritage line.
However, the biggest challenge still lies ahead! The restoration of railway vehicles nearly 50 years old is a significant challenge in itself, but one that is substantially increased when the vehicle relies on equally old diesel and electric components if it is to function. A very substantial injection of funding will be required if a unit is to be safequarded for the long term. There are many ways in which you can help - and we are very keen on all offers of help - and becoming a member is just one of them.
Please help us to achieve our aims and preserve one of these units as a living example of a truly historic and long-lasting period in the history of railways in southern Britain. Membership details and an application form can be accessed through the link here. Membership Application Form
